We've of course tried rebooting the affected machines, this has not cleared anything up.

The machine I'm connecting from also does not have a long hostname. There is an issue going around from research where machines that have 15 character long hostnames can have this issue, that is however not the case for my test machine. Neither the client or the host machine has a hostname longer than 9 characters. Only "locally" installed printers are.

There are eight R2 servers. They are all RDS servers and are on the domain. Servers 7 and 8 are new servers that have just been cloned recently and not many users logon to them. I can however still see and print to the redirected printers under Notepad or Word, I just cannot see them under Devices and Printers. I can see the log for my user profile was able to create the printer and the default printer was changed to what I set to on my local machine.

All servers are not using the Easy Print driver. That is set to disabled in GPO. All servers are on the same domain under the same OU. Domain admin AD account Environmental tab allows printer redirection. Aside from those 6 servers, my own machine can see redirected printers under Devices and Printers just fine on other R2 servers. Under devmgmt. It would seem like the redirected printer doesn't get installed by device manager, thus it doesn't get presented under Devices and Printers.

On a working server, the redirected printer will show up under devmgmt. OK, I've reinstalled Windows from scratch. Reinstalled all my applications and configured settings to be exactly the same as what I had previously. Now it's even worse, I can't get printers to be redirected on any R2 servers, even the ones that I've never had issues with. I'm thinking that perhaps there is a setting or a specific app that I'm using that's interfering or causing issues.

Gonna use Veeam and create a backup of what I currently have, restore it to a test PC and manually uninstall one app at a time and test if that fixes the redirection. If that doesn't work, gonna try reinstalling Windows and install one app at a time and test redirection. OK, this is bloody weird. Took a Veeam backup and restored it onto another machine.

Powered on the other machine and all R2 servers have no problem showing redirected printers under Devices and Printers. All problematic servers that I've had issues in the past have no problem. I went back to my old machine and check the BIOS for anything weird going on.

A leaner infrastructure, more flexibility and centralized management, to name just a few. If the WAN experiences bottlenecking on account of heavy network traffic or goes down completely, RDP performance is hindered or interrupted, resulting in unwanted and unexpected downtime.

RDP printing often involves printer redirection as the preferred deployment method, and the instances of remote desktop printer redirection not working as it should are legion. One of the most common problems is printers not appearing in the session.

In a nutshell, the server first receives a list of local printers that are installed on the remote client. Next, the server creates the print queue within the remote session. When the end user goes to print from the remote client, the server is queried for accompanying printer drivers.

All being well, the printer is then redirected. As you can see, this is a chain of events that depends on a series of successful queries and responses. Any failure at any point along that chain can result in remote desktop printer redirection not working and, among many other errors, the printer not showing.
